SMS is still the ultimate backup mechanism for sending data in several systems. It is universally available and not dependent on several of the systems that IP might be in the case of a significant outage. This video shows how to use AT commands to send an SMS.

In some applications, the ability to know the location of the unit without powering up a GPS is useful. Using the method shown in this video, an application can perform a geolocation operation through the use of a pure cell ID. This is demonstrated using the WP7607, which is a 2G/3G/4G module.
